ITALCEMENTI CEMENT FACTORY - ALZANO LOMBARDO (BERGAMO)
February 2013

This project, planned during the first Master of Science year, is about the Cement Factory of Alzano Lombardo located at the south entrance of Serio River Valley, in a few kilometers from Bergamo, and is a matter of Architectural Recovering in a real industrial-archaeology building.
The building is made up by a long series of sequential overlapping: it was the first factory of the Italcementi group, which is a leader in cement productions even nowadays; the oldest block of the Factory had been built in the later XIX Century and caused a total modification of the whole valley appearence as for the city of Alzano.
The core of the re-activation project is a whole new theatrical block equipped with all of the suporting spaces and interactive laboratories of acting and scenography; another big functional block is linked to the film production, a great part is dedicated to the history of the building itself, a big area of arts atelier with its own esposition spaces, food service areas, horizontal and vertical links that uses a great part of the old carriage network, which is peculiar of this kind of factory.
Among this great new interlinked system, my work was about the arts atelier, made with a system of moving shelf units that create a long series of modifiable spaces; together with theese spaces goes the external exposition area, made of a suspended cable system where artwork can be hanged in different ways. I worked on the superior restaurant and on the horizontal links and bridges that are made in opposite ways: light and evanescent the higher one, built in steel frame; strong and heavy the lower, made of solid concrete. Beside this internal areas I worked on all of the outsides where, as in the inner places, the constant presence of the giangantic existing structures in its clear rithm is used to design pavings, water and different hight planes.
