BACHELOR THESIS WORK - CASCINA CASELLE (PAVIA)
September 2012
The Bachelor Deegree Project is about the recovering of a big farmhouse complex located in Pavia province. There are both historical and functional peculiarity: it contains a little remain of a great and rich sub-urban villa that was builted from 1480 by Cardinal Francesco Eustachi; the later structural overlayings created various housing, farming, breeding and depots volumes. The functional peculiarity is about the actual maize production: the whole harvest is sold to a near farm in order to produce biogas.
The main idea is a wide “recovering”: not only the buildings are to be recovered, but mainly the original rural common living and cooperation, in order to create an autonomous village which is self-sufficient for the energy both of houses and residents.
In fact, besides a “classical” recovering of structures and systems, most of the old volumes becomes greenhouses, little breeding spaces and the central area become a garden, whose products are consumed by the residents; in a “hard mode” co-housing where inhabitants share even the meals and their preparation.
