MASTER OF SCIENCE THESIS WORK - TREZZO SULL'ADDA (MILAN) & ANI (TURKEY)
December 2014
The Master of Science project is dual: it’s about a massive intervention with the same system in two similar but far situations.
The main theme is to “mend fractions” where this fractions are social, historical and conceptual and they are materialized in the physical fraction of two bridges, as ancient as important: the castle bridge of Trezzo sull’Adda, and the main bridge of the deserted city of Ani, located in Turkey nowadays.
The main reasons that keep together this two objects are the past and present physical, conceptual and sense situation: both of them are, or have been, border bridges between two warring Countries, both had a single masonry arch, both are located at the bottom of a deep rocky steep, both are almost destroyed. Both are, were, or could have been, “bridges that connect and take over big difficulties”: the Trezzo bridge passed over the border that for over four century was between Milan and Venice domains; while the Ani ones, the deserted city that was the great and rich capital of the Great Armenia Reign around year 1000, could flyover the actual border beetween Turkey and Armenia; specially this last bridge, at the eve of the centennary of the Great Genocide, could be one of the greatest symbol of the reconcile will.
Both of the new bridges are made in a reticular steel structure that recovers the original arch lines in a new cycle-pedestrian use that gives a complete new and different life to themselves and their territory as well; they define, for Trezzo, a new cycle connection directed to Bergamo from Milan and Lecco; while, for Ani, the pivotal point for a completely new Archaelogical International Park over the two Countries.
