RAIMONDI BELLOMI STAUFFER PALACE - CREMONA

July 2013

The Raimondi Bellomi Staufer Palace is located in Cremona, and it’s a detached branch of musicology Pavia University, nowadays.

Its story is quite long and troubled: building started in 1481 as the city manor of the rich aristocrat Raimondi; after him it passed trough many owners and each of them left some traces of their passage in soft or hard interventions; right now it’s a real riddle made of overlayings, ravagings and modifications which were well done or not, specially the recent ones.

I studyied it during the first Master of Science year in the Restoration course, and a great attention was dedicated to its history and overlappings, both to decorations or particular elements such as the XV Century frescos, the XVII Century vaults and XVIII Century window and doors systems.

In this work we used some of the most recent diagnostical instruments such as active thermography and laser-scanner: with the first one we suggested a timing-collocation of the vaults built after 1648, while with laser-scanner we were able to confirm a little bu constant moving of the façade due to the cutting of one of the matal tendons that are in this building.

On the intervention side we update the heating system in the basement reaching a functional balance beetween the new wall radiant system and the old radiator system linked to the same public heating plant; as for the other building systems we re-designed the whole lighting system, among a redistribuition of some spaces in order to make them reachable by every user, the disabled too, without adding nothing to this particular structure; at he end we provided  fire-escape stairs as well.
